Definition

Yahoo! Desktop Search is defined as a retrieval software of information on the hard disks of the users. Thus, this "internal" search engine would make it possible to find the files mislaid on our computer.

Description

Based on the technology of the X1 company, Yahoo! Desktop Search is able to index more than 200 types of different files of which the traditional files of Microsoft Office, the e-mail of Outlook, the enclosures, the images, musical files, the pdf... The interface of Yahoo! Desktop Search, relatively easy to use, resembles to the explorer of Windows. Below a first level of mitres similar to a Windows program, a second level representing is the category of file in which one wishes to find the document required (emails, enclosures, images, music, or all files confused...). In each category, Yahoo! Desktop Search adds specific additional functionalities in order to refine research and to optimize its results. The results of research are posted on in the window of left in the form of a Windows explorer with additional information on the files - types of files, cuts file, goes back to last modification and the access path to the file (path). The window on the right allows prévisualiser the files of the list of results. For the audio and video files, a mini media player makes it possible to the user to listen to and/or see the file directly starting from Yahoo! Desktop Search. In this window of previsualisation, one can also find mitres allowing to carry out an action on the selected result: Open A slips by, open year email, forward year email, print has document, etc. An effective functionality is the description of the research topics (surlignage) in the list of the results and the window of previsualisation.
