 Norbert Wiener

Definition

He is the inventor of cybernetics

Description

The cybernetic word comes from a Greek word which appoints the pilot: Wiener thinks that the machines must help to control in a more rational way the company. It is the adoption and the success of the behavioral method in psychology which, to the eyes of Wiener, returns legitimates the comparison between the man and the machine. Studied from the point of view of his behavior, the man becomes comparable with the animal and the machine. The behavior is observable, it is the interaction a being with its environment. The communication, for example, is analyzed as a behavior of exchange of information. Wiener is very early aware of the part which the machines will play in our companies. For him, the human societies obey the principle of entropy (resulting from thermodynamics: any closed system tends to lose energy). They tend to the disorder, with the corruption. However our culture seeks to ignore this phenomenon, and thus reinforces it. Wiener has the hope which the machines will allow of more to better and do to circulate information, in order to increase our clearness and to make more effective our strength to the entropy.
