 IP spoofing

Definition

Usurpation of address IP.

Description

Technique used in order to try to obtain an unauthorized access on a machine. The intruder envoit of the messages to a target computer by using an Address IP seeming to indicate that the message comes from a machine of confidence. The IP spoofing is rather used against services whose mechanism of authentification rests on address IP. The principal difficulty - in addition to finding an Address IP customer to be simulated, and setting up the sending of packages networks whose address IP is falsified towards the target - consists in recovering the packages returned by the target bound for the machine having the spoofée address when that is necessary... Another use of the IP Spoofing consists with simply falsifying the source of another attack. At the time of an attack of the refusal type of service for example, if address IP source of the packages sent is falsified, it will be more difficult to locate the real source of the attack.
