 Firmware 

Definition

Software allowing the operation of a data-processing component, it is stored on the memory of this one.

Description

The firmware is the program which will make it possible before the drivers the component to function. The driver (pilot) is the following layer and makes it possible the material to interragir with the remainder of the computer. The firmwares are present on the majority of the current components (mother chart, reader MP3, chart wifi, modem ADSL...) They are mainly of two types: - firmwares resident - firmwares non-residents The firmwares resident remain toujouts in memory and are more complicated to update (memory EPROM). The firmwares nonresident are set up at each initialization of the apparatus (mainly for the peripherals attached in a permanent way to a computer), which facilitates their update.
