 DSLAM

Definition

The DSLAM is the equipment which makes the connection between the telephone lines of the subscribers with Internet and the network of the operator to which it belongs (Free, Wanadoo, Last nine Telecom...).

Description

The DSLAM (or DIGITAL Subscriber Line Access Multiplexor) is a machine which is on the level of the telephone exchanges of France Telecom (also called NRA for Subscribed Noeuds of Connection). It gathers the traffic of a great number of lines ADSL to send it towards the network of operator Internet (from where the term of multiplexer), and conversely. Especially The DSLAM recently passed from version 1 to version 2, which made it possible amongst other things to connect a greater number of subscribers by DSLAM (passage from 384 to 1008), and to be able to set up the ADSL 2 which allows certain improvements in particular the level of the maximum distance from connection of the subscribers.
