Alexa is an American Internet site (alexa.com) which audite and makes public the frequentation of Internet sites.

Description

Alexa toolbar, which settles free since the site alexa.com, offers a function of research (as the google toolbar) but it posts especially the world row of the site visited as well as the sites visited by the Net surfers having visited this site. From which does this information come? The toolbar does not make that to post information, it also sends some to the central waiter. Thus, with each time you visit a Web page with a diposant navigator of Alexa toolbar, information is sent to the waiter indicating your address IP to him and the page which you visit. On the multitide of users having the toolbar, it is possible to publish relatively reliable statistics. Here three indices provided by Alexa.com for each Web site. For each one of these indices there is a version jounalière and an average over 3 months: - the reach rank, or numbers visitors having visited the site on 1 milion Net surfers. If for example the index is worth 10, that wants to say that on 1 milion Net surfers, 10 one visited your site. Attention that does not want to say that the site accomodated only 10 visitors because there is much more than 1 milion daily Net surfers in the world. - the number of pages seen by Net surfer. This index represents the average of the number of page seen by the same Net surfer on the Web site. - the alexa rank, is a mixture between the reach rank and numbers it pages seen by Net surfer. It is on this index that Internet sites are classified. The site number 1 on the world classification of Alexa to date is yahoo.com which receives 300000 visitors out of 1 milion Net surfers per day. Into large 1/3 of the daily Net surfers go on yahoo.com to less the one time in the course of the day! Limitations: - the daily history of the indices and the graphs of evolutions are reserved for the first 100000 world sites, with a quite comprehensible aim not to make overflow the base of data. - These indices are reliable only for sites with strong frequentation. Indeed on the sites with weak traffic, the reach rank oscillates between 0 and 1 what does not mean large thing. - Alexa toolbar is especially present at the United States even if its succés starts to largely cross these borders. While waiting, the sites in English language are of this fact favoured aun level of the world classification. Certain site French-speaking people at fort traffic have world rows which do not represent of anything them traffic. - Alexa.com provides statistics except detailed on all the Web sites of the world on........ alexa.com: -) .
