ARPANET - Advanced Research Projects Agency Networ
Network set up at the United States in 1969 within the framework of a project of defense, and which is at the origin of Internet.
The initial objective was to build a indestructible data-processing network (in the event of nuclear attack for example), connecting university centers and military installations. Within this network, if one of the connections were broken, the data forwarded then by other ways to reach their recipients. In 1980, ARPANET is divided into two distinct networks, soldier (DDN) and academic (NSFnet). It is the latter which becomes since 1995 a sales network.
